Guest Speaker:  Mailyn Salabarria  “The Consequences of Not Being Involved”

Mailyn Salabarria was born, raised, brainwashed, and later escaped from the communist dictatorship in Cuba. Mailyn will share her first-hand experiences of the consequences of taking freedom for granted and how future generations pay the ultimate price of not getting involved. Mailyn has lived in the United States since 2001. She has a Juris Doctor degree from Havana University Law School and a Master of Sciences in Journalism and Mass Communication from Florida International University. Mailyn became an adopted Coloradoan in 2004 when she worked as news reporter and copy editor for the now extinct weekly Spanish newspaper, La Tribuna (The Greeley Tribune). For the past nine years, Mailyn has worked as professional interpreter and translator, as well as Spanish instructor. Her community service in Northern Colorado has taken her to high schools and community events to contrast the American dream with life in a tropical gulag, growing up in censorship and much more. She has two children (made in the USA with Cuban and American parts) and lives in Windsor, Colorado. A good article to read prior to the event: U.S.-Cuba policy: Myth vs. reality.
