ACTION! Red Flag Legislation

Friday, March 15, 2019, 10:00am - 02:00pm

Colorado: “Red Flag” Legislation to be Considered in Senate Committee on Friday

On Friday, upon adjournment as early as 10:00am in Room 357, the Senate State, Veterans, & Military Affairs Committee is scheduled to consider “Red Flag” legislation, House Bill 1177.  NRA Members and Second Amendment supporters are strongly encouraged to attend this hearing and voice their opposition to this gun control legislation.  Also, please contact committee members and urge them to OPPOSE HB 1177 when it comes up for a vote.

House Bill 19- 1177: Extreme risk protection order or "red flag" legislation sponsored by Majority Leader Alec Garnett (D-Denver) and Representative Tom Sullivan (D-Centennial), as well as Senators Lois Court (D-Denver) and Brittany Pettersen (D-Jefferson), would authorize the seizure of firearms from individuals without due process.  The petition can be originated by a broad class of individuals, to include roommates and anyone you've had an "intimate relationship" with.  Unchallenged statements made by a petitioner before a judge, alleging that someone is a danger to themselves or others in an ex parte proceeding -- prior to any formal court hearing at which the respondent can be represented by counsel and present counter evidence -- would be sufficient for law enforcement to enter that person's home and confiscate their private property.

Again, please attend this hearing in opposition to HB 1177. Also, please contact members of the Senate, State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee and strongly urge them to OPPOSE House Bill 1177.

Location:   Colorado Senate, Room 357
